Crumpled City Map - London

Designed by Emanuele Pizzolorusso, a young Helsinki based industrial designer, the Crumpled City Map is exactly that- it is made to be crushed ,manhandled and crumpled!. Made of trusty Tyvek®, it’s 100% waterproof and 100% recyclable. Not being able to figure out what's on the fold or crease of a paper map is history! You can squash this map into your pocket, bag or the accompanying pouch in 2 seconds flat without worrying about tearing your map and still be able to make out the details afterwards.

  • 34.25”Wx22.8”H ; 87cmW x 58cmH and weighing just 20g
  • Each City Map comes folded in a box with accompanying carrying pouch
  • Handy, lightweight
  • Made of Tyvek® -100% waterproof and recyclable
  • Map provides details of streets, monuments, galleries and museums, etc. and includes a sightseeing index
  • Each map also includes 10 "SoulSights" (places of intense emotions that are brought to life by the people passing through or stopping off in them)
  • Packaging depicts an image that is strongly associated with the city of London, in this case, a black graphic icon of the London cab.
Point of Interest: Post WWII saw the introduction of cabs called the Oxford and the Austin FX3's.  For many years  the boxy shaped cab, along with the double decker, became very much a part of London's image.
Today,  the more enduring shape cab is that of the Hooper Metrocab as depicted on the packaging cover of the London Crumpled Map.
Interestingly, there is no law stipulating that the London cab should be black. A cab may be any colour, however when the Oxford and the FX3 were introduced, they were supplied by their makers in a standard black colour. There weren't a lot of buyers willing to fork out extra money for a special colour thus black became the norm for many years.
